Search Engine Optimisation Tips
Spelling is Paramount
How you spell all the words for your site will affect the listing and 'perceived' location of your site. Previously, the article named Domains explained the importance of hosting your site in a regional location suited to your target audience.
Spelling is the same. If your language tag is EN-UK, then you should spell all words with the English UK variants. If your language is EN-US, then use the appropriate USA spelling. If you have the wrong tags, your site will always be considered mispelt. The Search Engines will still return a search result AND give a suggestive word above the search results.
(e.g. Did you mean... ) All will compensate for mispelt words and reward correct spellings.
Occasionally, surfers will misspell their words, through not knowing how the word should be spelt... and/or more often, poor typing. The related problem for web designers is people who accidentally spell incorrectly. The search results are weighted for common mispelt words.
If you deliberately misspell your words, hide incorrect spellings inside tags, Alt Text Properties or on the page. It will result negatively at the doc servers that send all pages to the web. It's a waste of time to deliberately misspell words.
Hiding Mispelt Words
Never attempt to hide mispelt words inside tags, Alt Text Properties, columns, tiny text or other. This is not received well by all indexes. Every 0.001 error you make, will soon add up and your site will be lowered. Get more than 5% weighted errors, and you can start all over again.
Also, it has now been published that hiding text in CSS classes, that is to write keywords and use a CSS Font Size to hide the text is also understood by all the spiders. That is spamming.
If you operate an Ecommerce Shop and your products are 'marketing driven' with deliberate 'spellonyms'. Keep them to a minimum. E.g. Krazy Dave's Munster Puzzle.
Never use Double Quotes for your pages. Some database page generators will treat this element as it's own coding. It may have hidden problems not initially apparent. Always use 'Single Quotes'. If you use " " for Alt text, Short Descriptions etc, the database generator may create errors in operation.
Appropriately, certain words are spelt differently around the world. Color, Colour etc. If your site is truly international, create new pages inside a Country Named Folder, alter the language tag for those pages and spell correctly for each international web page design.
OK, I really need 100 page links because my choices are so many. If this applies to your site, keep your links very clear to find. Remember, if your page text to code ratio decreases, the search results also decrease.
