The longer a reader stays on your pages, moves through pages and explores your domain,... the higher the website optimization results.
 

So how do you do that?

  • Provide better navigation and get rid of any design elements that look purely like your chasing a click for ad revenue.
  • Add a latest news section, have you seen window etc. This small design element can raise your MOPT (more online page time) by one (1) page per visit. This will soon add up to more monthly page visits and increase each month.
  • MOPT works like a sliding scale. If you can raise the page views of your site by 0.001 each week, within six months your site may have achieved an additional 50,000 page views.
  • Look again at your site, what can you do to raise the MOPT values.

 

Optimize your website for longer online time

 

If you're the webmaster, go inside at least 40% of your dormant domain pages and add an extra internal link to your highest ranked page.


 

Favorite Tip:  Add a 'have you seen' hypertext link

The words 'have you seen' are very powerful in helping increase your MOPT. For example, Have you seen the tips for using understanding cache for website optimization, try it, it's a real link.
 

2. Keep the columns of text easy to read

It may be new knowledge to you, or you know it and haven't used it. The width of your columns DOES impact on how long a person stays on your site and the length of MOPT.

In the article named 'scan a page' we explained the benefits of the surfer being able to quickly get the 'visual' topic quickly. If you apply this same principle to your pages inside columns, your MOPT will raise.
Notes: About Sites that use a full width window. If your site is fluid and uses the maximum screen width, add a second column inside the main table or div. Keep your reading approximately 10-12 words wide.
Yes, you can use a 4 column layout. If your site contains a left navigation column and a right news column, the inside content cells can be split into two (2).

Changing the width of the content to two columns will add longer domain time and optimize your website for your audience.


 

 

3. Use lists less than 6 lines

Rarely will people read a list of services longer than 6 points. Make the list hyper textual.

 

4. Use more paragraphs

A page full of text is a great way to make an optimized website. Place as much useful information inside paragraphs. People will read if the paragraph is well written, concise and accurate.
 

5. Show them what they have missed out on!

 

 

No body likes to miss out on anything.

So, if you can highlight a page not yet viewed, a special page not yet read etc, you can increase your MOPT. That page must be realistic and accurate otherwise, you will suffer 'close down'. You can't trick people, but you can highlight what they have missed.

We do that on this site by using a CSS class that highlights the pages already viewed. Those that a person has not yet seen remains in the normal blue hyperlink color. A page previously viewed turns grey.
