How pictures effect your website
Use
pictures that help your online page time
This article is part of the series dedicated to giving you more
online page time for your websites overall status.
Use images that look like the region of your site.
Be very aware of the images you use on your site
To highlight this point, take a look at the images
used on this page. They quickly give you a visual of where a
fictitious company or domain operates from and it's geographical address.
We will use currency for an Example
 |
This picture shows a regional
image of Euro money so that it helps you understand that
pictures will quickly relate to the location of the website.
It would be assumed this page is in Europe. |
 |
Another picture, Does it convey where the business or
website is located? Probably not. This would be suitable for
brazil websites, not French. Try to get images that suit
your industry and locations. |
 |
See how the pictures can highlight the
location of your site. If you add a picture of a person that
models your business aims, does it look like they are in
America, Europe etc. This will have a big effect on page
online time. |
 |
For these examples we showed the local currency models. The
'Picture For Online Page Time Principle' also extends to how
you place male and female models on your site. |
Tip People chase locality
more than generality
 |
Get your pictures right
This picture highlights how if your site is hosted and
aimed at Brisbane Australia, using American dollars inside the
pictures is instantly perceived as wrong. Also, make sure
the
language tags match the pages pictures. |
 |
Is your
site aimed at teenagers and young people, it is fashion
related etc? Get your pictures right and people wont back
button purely because the pictures are wrongly perceived.
|
 |
Take Note: This picture was found on a site dedicated to
older people. The imagery throughout the site was perfect...
HOWEVER... the site uses a font that was too small
and with a bad font and with poorly contrasting
colors. It was not easy for people to read so was back
buttoned very quickly.Learn more

Be very critical of the images you use on your
website
1. Choosing the wrong picture can and
will make people instantly back button that page or close down
your domain. The manner in which you wish to promote your site
relies on correct picture themes, visual web ambience and speed.
Tips: Anything that lowers your online page time must be
immediately changed. This includes photos, backgrounds, pictures,
bad links, screen sizes etc. Dont lose traffic purely because the
entry page is off-theme for the search result.
2. Add a generalized theme picture on
the popular pages so that if the entry page is not what the specific
search conducted is, or, another domain refers the page hit, the
surfer can quickly determine if they are in the right spot.

Buying Pictures or make and take your own
If you cannot take the appropriate photographs for
your site, consider purchasing an optimized image. Optimized images
are generally 72 dpi saved for web at 85% pixilation. If your not
sure whether to purchase a jpeg, gif of png format. Choose jpeg. It
can be adjusted later at any time.
Notes about buying pictures. There are thousands
of sites in which you can pay $1 for an image with no recurring
fees, royalty free and without any legal considerations for the
amount of times the picture appears. Avoid paying for a picture that
is conditional. Search around a bit longer to find a royalty free
picture site.
Owning pictures
If your site needs to have a special picture
exclusively yours. You should take your own photos or employ a
professional photographer. Also, new designer programs allow you to
embed your copyright info inside the web image.
Design for readers first... use the correct pictures
Which picture to add can be very simple or very difficult to
decide. Always match a picture to the overall theme of your business
and show a generalized picture of products. Sites may be closed down
because the general product line was not shown, the entry page may
have been 'visually' away from the surfers intention etc.
Tip Always include an Alt Tag for pictures. Then the image will
be spidered and added to the photo libraries of the search engines.
