Better using your site
Are
Mouse Movements beneficial to my site?
Understanding how the person travels through your
site, the mouse movements and actions will help your site.
If you watch your friends navigate through your
site, jot down their mouse movements, where they tend to click to
find pages, how often they return to a certain page to find things
and when they get confused or unsettled attempting to get somewhere
you ask them to find.
If you can understand the mouse movements of your
site, you will be able to adjust particular 'visual' link areas,
improve your navigation structure and fine tune your site. The
longer a person can stay on your site or shop, the more successful
the website is.
This simple suggestion is not easy to achieve
because different people will use a different technique... so,
repeat the exercise on lots of different people. Ask your friends to
help, write them an email asking them to write down their mouse
movements.
Tips: The next customer that enters your
shop or reception, ask them. Strangers are far more critical and
will offer 'unbiased' help. This strategy will dramatically help
your site. It takes time, but is truly beneficial.
Tips: Buying a website template. You must
use this when deciding if the template is right for your needs. If
at all difficult or confusing, find another template.

Tips:
Use beneficial icons or a small picture that is fast loading to help
highlight important pages. Put an Alt Text Description inside the
picture so that if a person hovers over the icon, the next page is
described. Hover over the blue arrow in this sentence to see more.

Use your web stats
If your hosting company provides a website
statistical package such as Webalizer or AWstats, look carefully at
the popular pages AND... look at the entry - exit pages. If a
particular entry page is high, and the same page is also high for
exit. You should alter the links inside those pages. The title and
description were inviting for the person to enter, yet the stay was
too short. Analyze any reason why and change them immediately so
that people stay on your site longer. Provide more relevant content.
Show the highest ranked page on your site
If your entry level, exit level points are high,
try placing a very clear and easy to understand hypertext link to an
important page as adjudged by your web stats. Invite the reader to
continue to the next page. Most surfers will allow one page entry.
If the second page is not relevant, the page or site will be closed
quickly.
For the highest ranked page on your site, ensure
that 'link in' 'link to' keywords are suitable for your content.
